Allotment Diary – Starting To Build Compost Bins and Manure

There are exciting things afoot at the plot today … manure has arrived and I’ve been filling the raised beds. This will lift the soil level, make it nice and loose for my no dig beds plus fill the soil with valuable nutrition.

I’ve also found some wonderful pallets from a local company and I am planning out a compost bin with them. Really looking forward to getting this done because it then means I can move the existing weed pile and finish off the weedy end of the plot!

Are you manuring your plot over winter?

Allotment Diary – Slugs and Snails Are Eating My Winter Brassicas!

I’ve got my winter brassicas in but unfortunately they are under attack by slugs and snails … I don’t know where they are hiding but I’ve tried copper tape and am just putting in beer traps in an attempt to protect the seedlings. There’s a good lesson here for next year that slugs and snails are a significant problem on the plot. Hopefully I can stop them without resorting to slug pellets.

There’s a general update on the plot, which is looking tidy plus discussion on the plans for the future.
